According to the service manual for the player (if you have one of the models listed on the front page, that is) there is a paperclip sized hole (slot?) to open the dvd tray. It is on the underside of the player. Here’s an image taken from the manual, that shows how to open the tray with a paperclip if it won’t open using the eject button.

When you press the eject button, the NAV screen shows it is trying to eject but it does nothing. You dont hear any mechinical sounds of disk ejection either. It just gives up and acts as if a new dvd is inserted and starts reading it.
